1. This kind of creeped me out that I could find everywhere I have lived and my marriage certificate! I also found someone else with my name too! Makes me very cautious to watch statements as same names can get tricky with mailings etc.
2. I searched for my grandparents and found them! It took a little searching as there was more than 1 of my grandma. Lol I discovered you really need to know years or a general idea of years.
3. Scan born maps - I chose Brokings, near my home town. I looked up Maps from Feb. '28-'48 and found SDSU. In recent years since graduating from SDSU, campus has changed drastically so I want sure that any buildings would still be the same. Low and behold, the Admin building and auditorium were still there! The building at least. I do believe the admin offices have moved to another building lately, maybe...

Reflections
My biggest discovery was the Tumble books! My daughter LOVES them and asked for them on a daily basis. I also used them in my classroom for story time one day. Students sometimes get bored of listening to one person read everyday. Lol my kids enjoyed them. Some said there isn't much movement on the pages. I then replied that there isn't any movement when I read a book aloud to you. We need to use our imagination! Then we put on our super hero capes and used our imagination, I was so much fun!
I have already promoted it with some of my colleagues at school. I have also talked with my mom about it as she is a friend of the library in her town. She didn't even know it existed! One point for me!! I know I will always use this site and it's resources in my classroom and share the ancestry info with my family. Thanks for the opportunity to search and learn!

Worldcat and more....

1. I really like the fact that you had many choices to search other than keyword. This will eliminate irrelevant results when searching for info.
2. I chose the book Wild as I'm currently reading it. 515 results were found. 2505 libraries have this book. Alexander Mitchell Library was the first one listed to have it. Location in library: Adult Nonfiction 813.6 STRAYED. No other information was listed when I delved deeper into it. Maybe I didn't look in the right area. I'm not quite sure.

EBooks on Ebscohost
1. I searched for Titanic survivors as my husband is intrigued by anything Titanic. I found it rather funny that 1 result was "How Social Security Picks Your Pocket". I did like the Most Relevant Sections from this eBook. The Complete Idiots Guide piqued my interest as they are always good books to look through, I feel. The section that I really liked was on the right hand side of each article...if you clicked on Cite, it pulled up the exact way to site the eBook in 3 different formats: ABNT, AMA, APA. very useful for those like me who haven't needed to cite a source correctly since doing research papers in college.

Gale Virtual Library
1. I chose boxing for my title. I learned how to kickbox a few years ago and LOVED it! It was cool that it pulled up warm ups of pro boxers, Ali, risks, and benefits. It also had key terminology that would be useful for someone researching for a paper quickly.
2. I searched gluten free as I have students who are gluten free and family members as well. The listen feature would be useful if you were needing to get other tasks done and wanted to search for information. I'm a multi-tasker so I found it very neat that the entire article could be read aloud to me. I also liked the fact that you could speed up/slow down the reading speed, have the article automatically scroll for you, and change the highlight colors. The color changing is great for those with visual difficulties like Irlens Syndrome where people need t see text Ina. Certain color to read effectively.

Proquest
1. I searched dementia as my aunt is thought to have dementia and a close family friend has been diagnosed with it. I wanted to learn more facts instead of just a broad search on a search engine. I like the face that I could scan through the article titles and check the box to the left when I came across an article that piqued my interest. Then I could view only the list of articles that I checked. Very useful and practice when researching. Articles could also be saved too.
On the right hand side it was also very useful to have a list of other articles that may aid in my research.
In one article I found it very interesting that many brain functions are affected long before an official diagnosis is ever made.
1a. I often look through everyone's blogs to see if I've missed anything that someone else may have found. It seems like we are all realizing that these are very good resources. They would be very useful for students and that we should spread the word.
2. I searched for preschool in the publications link. It came up with Turtle Magazine for Preschool kids. I liked that I could change from text to PDF. Being a Preschool Teacher, I'm more visual. I wanted to click through each page of the publication, but had to first select all of the pages and then in the upper right side, I could click next to view the next page in the publication. I had to check them all first. I wish I would have seen that earlier...I was getting a bit frustrated. I didn't feel like my search had netted enough results, so I searched Early Childhood instead. 5 publications came up. I loved it that one of them was one that I used to pay for a subscription!! No more subscription for me!!
On the right hand side it was also very useful to have a list of other articles that may aid in my research.

SIRS Knowledge Source
Upon first opening this link, I noticed that it is geared more at older learners. There is more text and not as many "kiddy" icons.
1. I chose Adoption as my leading issue. I'm a headline reader first time through a site. I noticed the Pro & Con Issues section first. I found these very straight forward and would be excellent for those on a debate team! On the left hand side, I was still able to sort my results in a drop down box. I also clicked on matching subjects which helped narrow down my search. It brought up adoption of pets, agencies, and different countries. An AMAZING amount of articles to read and delve deeper into a topic!
2. Curriculum Pathfinders - I chose Fine Arts Opera. I found 3sites listed here. I absolutely love Opera and have never heard of us opera.com. I opened the link and it was a HUGE listing of composers and more links to discover even further! There were recording of some of the operas, which would boost a lesson beyond any other!
On a side note...under quick and Advanced search, there is a link called student tools. This link brought me to a step by step tutorial on how to do a research project. Very useful for those students that don't ask questions or for those that need to figure it out a little on their own.

1. Very useful research tool for elementary aged on up classrooms. I liked the fact that you could sort the articles by date, relevance, and lexile. These adjustments would be very helpful for those learners that get overwhelmed by too many choices. The color coded books for reading level would also benefit those students that struggle with reading. A teacher could add to the rubric that they needed the amount of articles from each category needed (general, easy, moderate, challenging). Also a wonderful tool to check students resources.

It brought me to the page we previously visited with all the articles and photos. There was also an Additional Resources section on the bottom left when I scrolled down. It took me to more sites with very useful information on Hungary as well. In my eyes....1 search and all the information just a click away. There is no need to check for authenticity at all!

Learning Express
I was very excited to check out this section. I purchased lots of materials to prep for my GRE exam years ago. This would have been less time consuming and helped me note which areas I struggled on.
Exam practice - After scoring and reviewing the results, it was easy to navigate and see what the correct answers were. Very practical both for time and money spent.
Career Resources - it's been years since I made a resume, so I found this section interesting. It wasn't a lot of reading, but more key points. Very useful when you have to create a resume quickly.
EBooks - very nice to use for extra work for students or when tutoring. Personally I still like using books, but eBooks was useful too. Less space on a shelf.

Mango Languages
This site is great!
1. I especially liked where you could type in a word or phrase in English and translate it into a different language. Hearing how things are to be pronounced was also useful.
2. She could use the above method and type in the word or phrase in Vietnamese and translate into English. The lessons are very methodical and easy to follow.

Chiton Library
At first I wasn't sure exactly how to use this site as I'm not a car nut...so I went to the help section at the top right. It was very helpful.
1. For our car we need to s/I manual transaxle oil, exhaust system, and ignition cables. I'm still not sure what S/I means but that's what was listed.
2. The most recent recap for the car was issued 12/5/2015. Not sure how it can be issued in 12/2015 when it is only Feb. 2015. It is for an air conditioning odor. Which the car actually has. So this will be helpful when taking the car in for our next maintenance appointment.
3. When looking at the brakes section, it contains all information and more than he car manual! This would be very useful when getting brakes replaced so you know that the repair shop is using the correct parts. Not saying that they wouldn't, but it is always better to get something repaired by having some extra knowledge on the subject yourself.
Overall, I believe this site is very useful for those that want to research car repairs, recalls, repair their own cars, or learn more!

World Book Foreign Language

World Book Online version
I love the fact that you can click on a photo and it gives a print option. No more cropping, copy/paste....it just shows the best printing option! Wonderful feature for those students creating a visual project or a display of information. This makes presentations that much less time consuming to out together and more time to practicing the actual presentation!
I just found the translate into language button! Another perk for bilingual students or ESL. I would use this to teach my young students how to say a word in a different language.

World Book school edition
Since I teach preschoolers, I found that World Book Kids was very easy to navigate and not too overwhelming for my students to view on the Smart Board. The World Book Student would be very informational and useful for research and presentations for older students. It had a different format, but still very easy to navigate. I prefer the Kids navigational format better, but that's my preference.
One benefit that I really enjoyed was the Save to My Research option on the right hand side of each article or video. That is very useful for those that have limited time and can save articles to read later. It would also aid in documenting resources when concluding a project.
The read aloud toolbar in World book Discover is awesome! I had to go back and check the other World Books for their read aloud option. I was disappointed it wouldn't work on the iPad. With technology being so portable, it would be a nice addition to add portable devices. Maybe someone else can get it to work and I'm missing something.....
